Mondo got an unofficial gold medal for its Sportflex Super X 720 athletics surface that was installed for the latest edition of the European Athletics Indoor Championships, which were staged at Ataköy Arena, Istanbul, between 2-5 March.
The 37th edition of the championships achieved the highest ever score for the event in the World Athletics Competition Performance Rankings, the first European Athletics Indoor Championships to earn over 47,000 points, with a tally of 47,432 points. The follows on from top scores at the two previous European Athletics Indoor Championships with Torun 2021getting 46,566 points and Glasgow 2019 46,455 points.
Both championships also featured Mondo athletics tracks.
No less than 15 of the last 18 venues for the European Athletics Indoor Championships have been held on Mondo tracks.
In Istanbul, the superlatives achieved on the Mondo track, were immense headed by Nafissatou Thiam’s pentathlon world record of 5055 points, the Belgian multi-events exponent triumphing in a contest which saw Poland’s Adrianna Sulek also exceed the former world record with a national record 5014 points.
Many athletes in Istanbul were quick to praise the Sportflex Super X 720 athletics track and how it had aided their performance.
One of those was Great Britain’s inspired Jazmin Sawyers who took the women’s long jump title with a national indoor record of 7.00m.
“The track is lovely, it is fast, and it feels like we get a lot back from it,” the delighted Briton told the assembled media, a sentiment echoed by many of the other medallists.

Approximately one in every seven athletes in action in Istanbul set a personal best on the Ataköy Arena's Mondo athletics track.
The European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul came at the end of a hectic indoor season which Mondo athletics tracks featured at the venues for no less than 25 of the stops on the World Athletics Indoor Tour, including five of the seven Gold meetings.
