After the countless successes achieved in 2021, the new season of the World Athletics Indoor Tour is about to get underway. In fact, 2022 promises to be a year of great growth for the sport and in particular for athletics, and the MONDO tracks will once again be the ideal stage for athletes from all over the globe, ready to set new records in the indoor series.
Despite the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which have now changed the rules of the game, especially in sports, the World Athletics Indoor Tour 2021 is certainly to be counted among the most successful athletics events. All this has allowed for an expansion of the competition calendar and an increase in prize money for the winning athletes, thanks mainly to the introduction by the federation of three levels of competition: Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Therefore, World Athletics, thanks to these measures, has been able to give greater prominence to athletics allowing greater visibility to all sports that are part of it, especially within the indoor scene.
The World Indoor Tour 2021 has given countless satisfactions, primarily to the athletes, but also to the public and above all to the organizers and builders of athletics tracks. In fact, many records were broken during the World Athletics Indoor Tour last year: it was a record that inaugurated the second stage of the Gold series, at the Arena Stade Couvert in Liévin where the MONDO hydraulic banked athletics track is installed, on which the Ethiopian athlete Gudav Tsegay recorded an incredible race time of 3:53.09 in the 1500 m, setting a new world record. The Lièvin stage also added another important record, this time a European one, thanks to Jakob Ingebritsen in the 1500m.
Another stage, another record, during the event held in Spain, in Madrid, on February 24 on the MONDO permanent banked track: here the 60m hurdles champion Grant Holloway broke the previous record, belonging to Colin Jackson, with a time of 7"29. A truly amazing result that meant a new world record.
During the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in New York - another stage of the Gold Series - equipped with a MONDO variable hydraulic banked track, many athletes in the various disciplines pushed themselves well beyond the limit, setting numerous continental records. The Australian Oliver Hoare in the 1500 meter flat Indoor race finished with an excellent result of 3:32.25; the American Donovan Brazier in the 800 meter flat race recorded a 1:44.21, a truly incredible time; another American, Bryce Hoppel, set a new continental record in the 1000 meter flat category with a time of 2:16. 27; in the women's 500m category, it was Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo - already two-time Olympic 400m flat champion in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo 2020 - who set a new continental record by finishing with a time of 50.21.
The first stop of the World Athletics Indoor Tour, held on January 24 last year at the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville and equipped with MONDO track, was inaugurated with a masterful performance by Olympic champion Ryan Crouser, who set a new world record in the shot put with an incredible 22.82 m. In this event we could also witness the return of the 60m champion Trayvon Bromell, who after years spent recovering from injuries, dominated the race finishing in 6"48, very close to his personal best.
Also in the stage of February 2 in the Športová hala Dukla in Banská Bystrica we witnessed an exceptional performance as well as a national record on the MONDO portable track, recorded by the very young Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh who finished the high jump competition with the excellent result of 2.06 m at her first attempt.
In addition, many important milestones were also achieved in the Bronze series, where many athletes distinguished themselves on the MONDO tracks at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, the Topsporthal Vlaanderen in Gent and the Coque Sport Center in Kirchberg. One of the most impressive performances in these important Bronze competition stages was that of Pierre-Ambroise Bosse, who finished the 600 m race with the second fastest performance of the year.
The World Athletics Indoor Tour 2021 ended on February 27 in Aubiére on the Sportflex Super X athletics track. In the same facility a few days earlier, on February 16, Hugues Fabrice Zango had scored an amazing 18.07 m in the men's triple jump.
This year, the World Athletics Indoor Tour will offer athletes more opportunities to compete thanks to the largest ever calendar that includes 38 events in 14 countries. The expanded Tour will thus broaden the reach of athletic events around the world and incorporate additional area competitions. Now in its seventh season, the World Athletics Indoor Tour '22 will feature seven Gold-level competitions, beginning on January 28 in Karlsruhe and culminating in Madrid on March 2. With these premises, the World Athletics Indoor Tour 2022, promises a great show and exciting results.
The 2022 World Indoor Athletics Tour will kick off on January 22 at the CrossPlex Athletic Facility, Birmingham, AL (USA) for Bronze level competition. In contrast, the first event to be contested on MONDO track and field will take place on January 29 in New York City during the Millrose Games, and will be just the first in a countless series of events that will bring MONDO tracks to the forefront of this world tour in 2022.
Within the Gold Series event in New York City, eyes will surely be on the top clash between Tokyo World Champion Katie Nageotte and Sandi Morris, already Olympic silver medalist in 2016 and World Indoor Champion in 2018: the two athletes will compete in the pole vault. So, what better surface than the one provided by the MONDO athletic track experts to maximize the performance of the two athletes? The Millrose Games meeting will most likely see the debut of many athletes of international caliber, such as the Olympic 800 meters champion Athing Mu, but also the Olympic weight throw champion Ryan Crouser and the champion of the same category Joe Kovacs, just to name a few.
The season debut of reigning world champion and newly crowned winner on the MONDO athletics track of the gold medal in Tokyo 2020 Marcell Jacobs is scheduled for February 4 in Berlin. To see Jacobs' debut on MONDO tracks, we will have to wait until the events in Lievin on February 17th, after which he will take part in the meeting in Birmingham and the one in Torum, where last year he was European champion in the flat 60 meters.
For the 2022 edition of the World Indoor Tour, most of the events - mainly in the Gold series - will be on MONDO tracks, which for years have supported all athletes in all the main athletics disciplines, and not only. Thanks to the expert study of materials, the MONDO team has specialized in the construction of tracks for athletics that have allowed professionals to break countless records in all disciplines, without neglecting a fundamental element such as comfort.
Below are the events of the World Indoor Tour Gold that will involve numerous European and non-European countries and that will decide the participants in the World Indoor Championships to be held in Belgrade.
